Skin Tag & Mole Removal
Why remove a skin tag / mole?
While skin tags are benign and harmless skin growths, they can cause irritation (against clothing and objects) and be a cosmetic nuisance.
Similar to tags, removing a mole has emotional benefits if they make you feel self-conscious.
Some moles can also be a sign of health problems, and your Consultant may recommend they be removed for ‘peace of mind’ and to reduce the risk of future health problems..
Is it painful?
The affected area of skin will be numbed with a local anaesthetic before the doctor starts the removal procedure. This will minimise pain and discomfort.
Is it safe?
As with most procedures, there are side effects, and Dr Musa will discuss these with you.
Infection at site area may occur.
To avoid this, please follow the doctor’s instructions on aftercare.
What is the downtime?
You won’t need to take time off work and you should be able to return to your normal activities straight away.
Depending on the size and location of the lesion, your doctor may recommend that you don’t drive or take part in any physical activity for a while afterwards.
Any stitches will need to be removed at our practice; you’ll be updated about this on the day of your procedure. A follow-up appointment will be provided, if needed, to help with your recovery.
When will I see results?
Results will take a couple of days, as the site of removal needs to heal.
The operation will usually leave a scar. How big and noticeable this will be depends on the exact operation. Most scars fade significantly over the first year. We will also give you advice on how to reduce the appearance of your scar, such as gently massaging the site after your stitches have been removed.
Best GP I’ve ever been to. Very thorough and wide range of expertise. My family has followed him to three different practices and excited that he has his own now. Highly recommended.
